Local Business Supports our Campaign

Local Business Supports our Campaign

Another local business has jumped in to help us with our campaign. Carafax of Sutton Fields have generously donated a cheque for £500 after we wrote to them recently asking for help. It’s support such as this that will ensure we hit our target and provide the camera that the eye hospital desperately want.

Thank you so much to the good people at Carafax.

Myton Lodge Freemasons

The team was presented with a £2000 cheque by the Myton Lodge Freemasons recently after we presented our campaign to them and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress at their building on Beverley road. They have been supporting us all year in our campaign and a special thanks goes out to Bill Hartley and Chris Harland for their hard work in helping us. Also to Phil Harrison who presented us with a cheque for £70 from profits of his book on Freemasonry.

Fantastic Grant Award

Fantastic Grant Award

After a difficult and lengthy application process to the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People, we have just been notified that we have been awarded a cheque for £10,000. This does not come with any strings attached or as a pledge or promise when we reach a certain amount, this is a direct donation to the WISHH Charity which as usual, is ring fenced exclusively for the RetCam appeal.

As a team, we think this is a fantastic boost as not only does it significantly increase our total, but just as importantly, this is the first national organisation that has recognised us in this way and our bid was up against professional, national charities. It proves that our local campaign must rank with the best and is considered nationally to be worthy of support.

We cannot thank the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People Charitable Trust enough for supporting us in this way.

A second table top sale to-day at the M&S store in Anlaby netted the appeal £185 profit.

Thanks to Jane at M&S for allowing us to set up stall and Irene for the ever popular jigsaws which always seem to sell well there.

Jeddy Bears Picnic & Acre Head Fun Day

Jeddy Bears Picnic & Acre Head Fun Day

Fabulous day in fabulous weather for our mid summer/end of term Fun Day at Acre Head.

Thanks to all the stall holders for coming and supporting us and thanks to everyone that brought the rides, the swings, the food van and ice cream van and the ENORMOUS bouncy castle.

We have special thanks to the guys for supporting us, Gary & Jed. A great routine, despite dragging up RetCam team members to help out.

Thanks to Amy for organising stalls for us and thanks to friends and family who helped to man the stalls and the entrance gates. It would just not have happened without you all.

We simply cannot leave out Ed and Mrs Robinson though, once again going the extra mile for our appeal (we are really going to miss you Mrs R)….

Great turn out and hopefully the kids (and the adults) enjoyed it.

£460 raised on the day.

The Hull Trusts Football Tournament

The Hull Trusts Football Tournament

Many months ago, a Trust employee named Tom Fletcher approached us and asked if would like to be their chosen charity for an upcoming football tournament he was organising between the Trust and local businesses including Barclays bank.

We jumped at the offer and ever since, Tom and his cousin Anthony Snow, who works at Barclays Bank have been hard at work planning and organising the event which ‘played out’ to-day at South Hunsley school in glorious sunshine.

8 teams played six a side football with support from senior personnel from the Trust playing on Toms side, including the eye hospital director, Colin Vize himself! He really wants this camera now…….

Sustenance was provided by way of a BBQ and chilled drinks served up by team members and a thoroughly good time was had by all.

Barclays have generously agreed to match fund everything raised, so we are hopeful that in excess of £1,000 will have been generated today, with every penny going towards the cost of the camera.

Remember. Everything raised will go towards the total. Absolutely nothing is taken away for administration or running costs, other than the costs of staging the events.

Everything from burgers, sausages, drinks and breadcakes to sauces and salad was been donated by local stores.

Great result chaps, even though you were knocked out early on!! (Sorry)

Castle Hill Fun Day/Hessle Sinfonia

Castle Hill Fun Day/Hessle Sinfonia

A very busy day at the Trusts annual fun day at Castle Hill hospital where our stand was in a prime location for passing trade. From jigsaws to jelly babies and glitter tattoos to drinks, we tried to sell it all there.

Through a combination of direct sales and the raffle and a tombola, we managed to raise £190 on the day. Congratulations to Chris Hanson on winning the £75 photography voucher.

And then a mad dash to Longcroft school to meet the lovely and magnificently generous Hessle Sinfonia orchestra and their audience.

Through a combination of ticket sales and a frantic 10 minute raffle, we managed to raise £456 on the night which is another fantastic boost to the campaign.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening of well played classical music as well. A special thanks to Kate Lutley for making this happen.

We were privileged to be invited and be given a stand for this prestigious event held to-day at the Doubletree Hilton in Hull to celebrate the NHS’s 70th birthday.

A great day was had by the team, meeting old friends and new and a number of significant contacts were made which hopefully, will bear fruit in the near future.

Thanks to Burnsy again for a slot on his show and to the CEO of the Hull Trust, Chris Long, for his unconditional support with our appeal.

As usual, once again, a special thanks to everyone who supported us by donating and helping us to raise £111 to-day.

Acre Head Primary Provides Another Great Boost to our Appeal.

The youngest and most active member of our team is called upon once again to be presented with another donation. This time, 200 £1 coins from the lovely ladies at Acre Head Primary school from a charity race day they had recently.

The staff there have supported us 100% from day one and have really been an inspiration to us and have given us the motivation to keep positive throughout the campaign.

We look forward to an extra special day for the kids on the 14th July at Acre Head for Jeddy Bears picnic now.

Many thanks once again to Acre Head and Mrs R…..
